Healing Technique: Earthing

Although this one sounds ridiculous, there is a surprising amount of scientific evidence behind it. Earthing is literally putting your bare feet on the ground. Here are some of the effects although most results so far would benefit from additional studies:


  1. Lowers stress hormones and improves heart rate - Moderate effect size.

  2. Prevents clumping of blood cells - Moderate (but limited) effect size.

  3. Reduces inflammation which can lead to decreased pain - Moderate effect size.

  4. Improves sleep quality - Moderate effect size.

  5. Possible hormonal and metabolic effects like blood glucose control and thyroid hormone control - Weak to moderate effect size.


The predominant theory as to why this has any effect whatsoever is due to the concept of grounding, like that of electric currents, which discharges excess energy into the Earth as a safety measure. The electrical fields our body is constantly exposed to through electronic devices produced by things like phones and through invisible electromagnetic waves, such as radio waves responsible for broadcasting television signals, results in the body harboring excess electromagnetic energy (the body is electromagnetic). Without a way to discharge the excess energy, the body is unable to functional optimally and various negative side effects can occur. The act of putting your feet on the ground literally discharges your excess electromagnetic energy into the Earth resulting in more balanced functioning. Turns out that electrical cables aren't the only thing can benefit from grounding.
